Chota Kailash — The Sacred Abode of Lord Shiva. A divine journey to the earthly representation of Mount Kailash, nestled near the Indo-Tibet border in Pithoragarh.
Adi Kailash, also known as Chota Kailash, Baba Kailash, or Shiva Kailash, is a sacred mountain peak in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India. Standing at 6,191 meters (20,312 feet), it is the second most important peak among the Panch Kailash after Mount Kailash in Tibet. This divine pilgrimage offers an extraordinary blend of spiritual enlightenment and breathtaking Himalayan beauty. Located near the India-Tibet border, Adi Kailash is believed to be the earthly representation of Mount Kailash and the sacred meditation spot of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Four divine destinations that make this pilgrimage truly unforgettable
The sacred Adi Kailash peak resembles Mount Kailash in Tibet and is considered the abode of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu mythology, this is where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati halted during their journey to Triyuginarayan for their divine marriage.
Pilgrims believe that completing this yatra grants moksha, washes away sins, and brings divine blessings.
Om Parvat is a mystical mountain peak famous for the naturally occurring snow formation that resembles the sacred Hindu symbol 'Om' (ॐ) on its southwest face — visible from Nabhi Dhang camp on the Kailash Mansarovar route.
The Om formation is considered a cosmic sign representing universal energy and Lord Shiva's divine presence.
Two sacred glacial lakes at the base of Adi Kailash. Parvati Sarovar — the "Little Mansarovar" — and Gauri Kund are believed to have been created by Goddess Parvati herself. The crystal-clear waters reflect the majestic Adi Kailash peak.
Pilgrims take a holy dip before proceeding to Adi Kailash darshan for spiritual purification.
This ancient limestone cave temple is 160 metres long and 90 feet deep, featuring incredible natural rock formations and stalactites. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it holds immense mythological significance — believed to be where the Pandavas sought shelter.
Natural Shivalingas, images of deities, and the divine head of Lord Sheshnag adorn the cave interior.
